CGH Medical Center employees MAY qualify for Student Loan Forgiveness!
(Loans will only be forgiven if you meet ALL of the PSLF Program eligibility requirements.)
The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program encourages individuals to enter and continue to work full-time in public service jobs. It forgives, or cancels, the remaining balance (principal and interest) due on eligible federal student loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan, while working full-time for a qualifying employer.

To qualify for PSLF, you must:
- work for a government agency or for certain types of nonprofit organizations
- work full-time for that agency or organization
- have Direct Loans (or consolidate other federal student loans into a Direct Loan to qualify)
- repay your loans using an income-driven repayment plan; and
- make 120 on-time qualifying monthly payments.
Is employment with CGH Medical Center qualifying?
Yes - because CGH is a non-for-profit, city-owned hospital, we are a qualifying employer. Full-time employees working for CGH are eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
Which loans are eligible for loan forgiveness?
Only Federal Direct Loan Program loans that are not in default are eligible for PSLF (ie - Direct Subsidized Loans, Direct Unsubsidized Loans, Direct PLUS Loans, Direct Consolidation Loans).
Loans received under the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program, the Federal Perkins Loan (Perkins Loan) Program, or any other student loan program, including private student loans, are not eligible for PSLF unless consolidated into a Direct Consolidation Loan.
After you make your 120th qualifying monthly payment, you will need to submit the PSLF.
