He was a graduate of Indiana University with a degree in Marketing. Dale and his family moved from Glen Ellyn, Illinois in 1967 to Avon Lake, Ohio. He opened his own Western Auto hardware store in Vermilion, Ohio and successfully managed it from 1967 to 1973. His family moved to Vermilion in 1971 after a devastating house fire. It was his love of boating, fishing and the community that brought Dale to Vermilion.
