Prosecutors in the Southern District of New York on Tuesday asked a federal judge to sentence former FTX executive Ryan Salame to five to seven years in prison for his role in one of the “largest-ever” campaign finance frauds in American history and for helping to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business.
Salame’s attorneys, Jason Linder and Gina Parlovecchio of Mayer Brown, asked U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan of the Southern District of New York to impose a sentence of no more than 18 months, arguing that he was not part of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried’s inner circle and that therefore the collapse of FTX in November 2022 was “as shocking and dismaying to Ryan Salame as to everyone else in the world.”
